Infernal Devices Book 01
Prequel Series to the Mortal Instruments Series
1 out of 5
Tessa Gray, a sixteen-year-old girl, has always been normal. That is, until her brother sends for her from London, but when she arrives, she is kidnapped and imprisoned by the Dark Sisters. While under their “care”, she learns that she can shape-shift into other people. She is rescued by the Shadowhunders, and they protect her from the Magister, who desperately wants Tessa and her ability. However, is there more betrayal behind this than what meets the eye?
This series, the Infernal Devices, is the prequel series to the Mortal Instruments. However, I don’t think it really is necessary to read this before the Mortal Instruments. Why? Mostly because the plot and characters in this books are very similar to her Mortal Instruments series, so I fail to see how this is a “new” series. Yeah, sure, there are some new aspects like Tessa is less whiny and seems stronger than Clary, but it still reminded me of the other series, a lot.
Other than having a little bit better characters, the setting and style mad the book seem more boring and redundant compared to the other series. The descriptions were great, but there didn’t seem to be enough growth – it didn’t have enough oomph behind it. Not really a good series to start if you don’t like repeat stories or characters. Also, Magnus doesn’t have the same spark in this series, so I’m not really happy about that. :( The only reason why I would read the next book would be to see what Will talks to Magnus about.
