Zoey has returned from the Otherworld, but she has decided to stay on the Isle of Skye for what she calls a “break”. On the other side of the world, Neferet is back in Tulsa and she is set on bringing Zoey back. And if that’s not enough, Rephaim must choose between Stevie Rae and his father.

There might be some slight spoilers in my review, but if there are, I’ll put a spoiler mark new it.

The plot and everything else becomes predictable in this series, especially after Aurox shows up. And if you remember the last part of the previous book or the beginning part of this book, I don’t remember that much, it’s definitely predictable. xD *SPOILER START* I predict Aurox and/or Zoey will start to fall in love with each other because of who is “inside” Aurox. *SPOILER END* And that leaves me with another rant, which I will do later in this review. Anyways, there are still POVs, but it is mostly Zoey telling the story this time. :| Oh, and Zoey has (not detailed) sex in this book as well, and I bet you can guess who she did. So, yes, still sexual themes in this series. The only thing I really like was the bulls and the switched color meanings. ;)

As for the characters, I still feel the same for all the characters, though my hate for Zoey (and maybe Stark) is increasing. Stark’s Scottish accent is a little bit better in this book, but not by much. :S That’s pretty much the only thing that has improved with Stark. Also, he still mentions the “honor” thing and yet has sex with her. =___= As for Zoey, she is getting worse and pissing me off. First of all, how is she a leader when she can’t handle the stress of being “special” to Nyx and take a break? I mean, I get the new to being special, but it’s been long enough for her to get her act together and not be a complete wimp. She cries and whines more than other character in the book, and they have to go through about as much as her. Next, stop with the freaking boyfriends! Why can’t she be single and not having sex or pretend sex with or be sexual with each new guy that comes into the book?! She “loves” too many guys and doesn’t even know what the word means — just picks a guy and puts a “connection” on them. Also, I hated that the authors brought her back to life. When will one of your main characters just die and stay dead? :| Last thing, she very hypocritical, *SPOILER START* like why can’t Dragon stay mad on Rephaim for killing his mate, but she can never forgive Kalona over Heath. *SPOILER END*

Overall, I think the plot and everything else is becoming too predictable and not even interesting anymore. Plus, the characters are less than stellar, especially the main ones. *SPOILER START* Also, in this book, the authors kill off a lot of the characters either because they don’t know who’s who anymore or they need to develop the plot or both. I wonder if they will actually stay dead — unlike the other characters so far. *SPOILER END* Basically, I’m not that impressed so far for this series and think the authors should work on the character development more than the plot for a little bit.

With Heath’s death, Zoey’s soul has shattered and is on the brink of death herself. In order to help her, her friends must explore ancient vampyre history. Then there’s Stevie Rae, who’s keeping a secret from everyone. And lastly there’s Aphrodite, who has been blessed by Nyx with the gift of seeing the future, a Prophetess. All three of these girls will need to deal with their problems before they and the whole world gets burned.

There will be some spoilers, but I will mark them so that you get a little warning before coming to it. ;)

Like the previous book, this book is told with different point of views, which has actually tone down on the whining that I deplored. You still hear from Stevie Rae, Stark, Heath, Aphrodite, and Rephaim. However, there is one more point of view, Kalona now also tells the story, which was pretty interesting to read. ;) Also, the plot and character developments are getting much better — except for Zoey, of course. :S

Anyways, for the characters, I’m really starting to love Rephaim and Stevie Rae as a couple. They act so cute together without all of the sex and whining that Zoey’s relationships seems to end up with. Another couple development that I’m starting to love a lot is Aphrodite and Darius. I love how they accept each other as they are and don’t try to change each other. However, the Zoey and Stark “couple” is really annoying. Why pair her up with so many different boys? It makes her sound more like the slut than Aphrodite, and I don’t care how the authors try to spin it. When I got to the part where Stark is talking about being a “Guardian” was about honor, not love, I nearly barfed. Especially when you read about them kissing, possibly having sex with her, and basically saying, “I love you,” it stops being honor and changes to love (or horniness at least). URGH! That part annoyed me so much.

As for character development, I still like the side characters more (besides Stark) than Zoey. I haven’t really seen any real development in Zoey — only degrading. *SPOILER WARNING* Also, now that Stark calls her “Queen” because he thinks so, I think that Zoey is going to be much more bossy compared to the other books because she also thinks like that. *WARNING END* Another thing that was a pretty annoying development was the phony and freaky Scottish accent Stark seems to automatically develop after becoming a Guardian. What I want to know is how the hell a person can get an accent in such a short amount of time? I don’t know anyone who has developed an accent that quickly after one single event. And with the new addition of characters, you will still see that the authors are still obsessed with making every character in this book “beautiful”.

Overall, the plot is getting pretty interesting; it’s the main characters that I have a problem with. I also really hated the ending :( — *SPOILER WARNING* why do the authors keep bringing her back, when all she does is whines and tries to pretend she is a leader. *WARNING END* I don’t know how much more I can take of these characters or books when I’m getting annoyed all over again just by typing this. ~__~

Stevie Rae has been keeping things from Zoey, and Zoey’s beginning to wonder exactly what she has been up to. And not only that, A-ya’s pull starts getting stronger. How will their choices on how to deal with these things affect not only the House of Night, but also the whole world?

There might be some slight spoilers in my review, so beware of those. It’s mostly towards the end of my review. ;)

This plot was a little bit more interesting than the other books in this series so far, mostly because there are different points of view. Yes, instead of hearing just from Zoey about how much responsibility she has to deal with, you also get to hear from Stevie Rae, Stark, Heath, Aphrodite, and Rephaim. Also, you get to know a little bit more about Kalona’s past, and it was really interesting to read and find out about that. ;) Oh, and it is getting a little bit more sexual because it describes Kalona cupping Zoey’s breasts in a dream. xD And yes, that’s my warning to you about the sexual themes in the book. *laughs*

Anyways, the different points of view is the only thing that kept me from throwing the books — Zoey’s attitude and personality still hasn’t changed and was really annoying the hell out of me. *coughs* Especially since the authors have once again put her with a lot of boyfriends. -__- I like how the authors started using different POVs because now we get to know more about the other characters’ personality. Like for Stevie Rae, I like how much stronger she is compared to Zoey — she knows she can’t be prefect and doesn’t really try to be. Also, I love reading some of the story in Aphrodite’s view, mostly because her personality seems more realistic. Another thing I like is how there is much less reminding about the character’s personality/history than the other books. :D

Overall, I really like how the POVs bring the plot and side characters into a different light. And the ending is kind of sad with a certain death of someone and kind of “Yay! I hope she stays that way!” :D Basically, though, the ending is pretty good. ;) The series is definitely starting to turn for the better, and I hope it stays that way for the rest of the House of Night series.
