The war with Valentine is finally over, and everyone should be living peacefully, right? This peace doesn’t last very long when someone starts murdering Shadowhunters who used to be in the Circle. But this time Simon can’t help because his mother finds out that he is a vampire. And not only that, someone wants his Daylighter powers so they can bring someone back from the dead. Will Simon be able to figure it out before it’s too late?
The plot is pretty so-so, however, you will learn some new information about Maia, Magnus, the Cain Mark, and some other goodies. So, I guess, with these new pieces of information that this book isn’t a total bust (like I thought it would be). And before you do what I did, and read Clockwork Angel, I’m going to tell you now, you do not need to read that book to get more information about the new characters in this book. It would be a total waste of time, seeing that it barely mentions any actions that happen in Clockwork Angel, just some of the characters. Also, I still feel that it would have been better if this series ended with the third book. However, this book has some good twists, so it was pretty enjoyable from that aspect.
Anyways, the character growth and descriptions in this book is much better than in the others. I even like how there are different points of views, besides just having Clary narrating it, like it was in the first three books. I also love the Magnus and Alec moments. :D I even like the new characters since it added some good twists to it. Also, there are some romantic scenes that build up to “almost” sex, so beware of that. Then ending it kind of all right – almost like a cliffhanger. I will wait to see how the author will make this new arc more interesting.
